The village of Nyack will proudly host its 11th annual African American Day parade at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 15. (Rain date is Saturday, June 22.) The parade will kick off in Nyack’s Memorial Park, and will be led by Grand Marshalls Devin and Jason McCourty — New England Patriots Superbowl-winning stars and Nyack native sons.
The procession will include marching bands, classic cars, elected officials, community leaders and village residents. A festival will follow the parade in Memorial Park.
The parade route passes through the neighborhood where the McCourty twins lived as children, proceed- ing from Memorial Park west on Depew Avenue, then north on Franklin Street, east on Main Street, south on Broadway, east on Depew Avenue back to Memorial Park.
On the June 15 parade day, the star-studded procession will be followed by a festival in Memorial Park, including food trucks, jewelry and clothing vendors, and African art — along with live music throughout the afternoon. Bounce house, face painting and other activities will be available for the children.
“We are truly excited to honor the achievements of Nyack natives Devin and Jason McCourty for the first time this year,” said Louise Parker, Nyack Village Trustee. “They represent Nyack’s rich African American culture and a long history of achievement.”
“Last year, hundreds of community members attended Nyack’s African American Day parade,” continued Parker. “We invite everyone from all walks of life, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender and age to join us for an amazing day of community connection and camaraderie as we celebrate the achievements of African Americans in Nyack and nationwide.”
