RoCA Artists’ Opening Reception
February 24, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Rockland Center for the Arts kicks off its 2019 exhibition season exploring the power of art to transform and heal with three exhibitions: Spirit of Being, Searching for Stillness, and Quantum Connections. Each exhibit uses the power of beauty to present the spiritual in art through visual and meditative experiences. Many people find a healing through spirituality, but is spirituality just a religion or is it connecting to our higher self or soul through creation, such as the senses, dance, nature, art.
Spirit of Being, uses the power of beauty to present the spiritual in art through visual and meditative experiences.
Join artists Colette Fu, Garam Lee, Mark Weiss, Robyn Ellenbogen and Paula Kovarik as they present the spiritual through art.
In Searching for Stillness, Rockland artist Norman Galinsky addresses all of these questions through his artwork. Galinsky’s abstract geometric art has been inspired and informed by his background in science and engineering, and his ongoing interest and study of meditative and energy healing disciplines and consciousness explorations. Galinsky believes that art expression is energy itself – an aspect of what the Chinese term Qi, the universal life energy. His works are a practice of focus both on the intention of the work and the attention to his process-oriented designs. The images depict a “stillness in motion”, drawing the viewer into a meditative dialog with the present moment. The work seems to pulsate with energy, suggesting waves of particles vibrating through the work as though in it has created its own universe. Symmetry and circular imagery form a “stillness.” If one contemplates on this stillness, they may feel an awakening to a universal consciousness or their own inner vision of being connected to all of life.
Quantum Connections, the works of Daniel Martin Diaz, engages the senses and ask: What does it mean to be a human being? In these fast-paced times of technology how do humans seek to connect to their own being or spirituality or to heal? Diaz has an insatiable curiosity to explore the mysteries of life and science. His work is immersed in scientific and philosophical concepts, such as Anatomy, Computer Science, Math, Cosmology, Biology, Quantum Physics, and Consciousness. Diaz has a unique way of representing the mysteries of life merged with the realms of science through scientific diagrams, which explain theories and properties through imagery.
