Rockland Center for the Arts kicks off its season with “Poetics of Place”, Bill Baton drawings of Rockland.
These drawings are careful examinations and visual interpretations of our built and natural environment in Nyack. Each of these drawings creates a unique record that gives an insight into our history and who we are as a community.
Bill Batson, a resident of Nyack, is dedicated to using the visual arts to promote preservation, cultural education and community environment. He serves as the artist-in-residence at the Nyack Farmer’s Market, publishes a weekly sketch and essay of the village of Nyack in Nyack News and Views, serves on the Board of the Historical Society of Nyack, the Nyack Center and the Nyack Art Collective. In 2013 Batson received a Rockland County Executive Arts Award. In 2014 he published a collection of 55 sketches and short essays, “Nyack Sketch Log, An Artist and Writer Explores The History of a Hudson River Village.”
