As a third-generation stylist, Christine Cordey Salon owner Christine Locurto always knew that this industry was “in her blood.” She has been behind a chair since she was 17 years old and began her career in Warwick, NY – it was there that she learned that living and working in a small community was what she was meant to do.
After getting married, Christine was itching for a bit more. She wanted to be closer to the city, yet still work in a small-town salon, hence Nyack! Christine made the move to Nyack’s MB Salon & Spa where she learned the ins and outs of the large luxury salon landscape over the course of her 15 years there. When the owner decided to retire, she gave Christine her blessing to take over the business and in 2013, Christine Cordey Salon was born.
Located at 66 South Broadway, Christine Cordey Salon has been in business now for almost 11 years. Last year, Hudson Valley Magazine named the salon “Best of the Hudson Valley” for highlights.
“This industry is all I have ever known,” Christine says. “This boutique salon is a small, comfortable space for me to do my craft and enjoy my guests. Years later we never knew how special this little studio would become. We have trained and raised many young stylists in those walls.”
Most of Christine’s team are people she has trained and they are who Christine credits with making the salon what it is today – a “happy place” for guests coming from near and far that she hopes to make feel safe and heard (with amazing hair, of course). The salon even offers a $5,000 scholarship via the Rockland Community Foundation to students currently enrolled in one of the area’s cosmetology programs. Christine Cordey also gives back to the community in other ways with food drives, events for nonprofits, and their famous 12 Acts of Kindness during the holiday season.
Looking forward, there is no doubt that Christine plans on staying for many years to come.
“My ultimate goal is to leave a beautiful legacy and to continue our craft,” Christine says. “It’s truly effortless to come to work every day. A pure joy.”
