What’s old is new again. Celebrate the arrival of spring in historic “Clarksville,” known today as West Nyack, on Saturday, May 16, 2015 with a tour of some of the area’s most charming and treasured homes. Each of these unique residences has been either lovingly restored or artfully renovated and re-invented. Among the featured homes are a diversity of periods and styles− from a pastoral Queen Anne Victorian farmhouse, to a stately Italianate, to a quaint 1930’s woodland stone cottage, to a 1950’s Asian-styled bungalow, among others.
This self-guided house tour will take place rain or shine from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm with a wine and hors d’oeuvre reception to follow from 3-5 pm on the grounds of the 18th century Dutch farm at 110 Demarest Mill Road. Once a summer residence of famed fashion designer, Clare Potter, this beautiful, wooded property is now home to the Blue Rock School. The Clarksville Inn Restaurant & Pub, located at 1 Strawtown Road, is offering a special prix fixe luncheon menu for House Tour guests. Presented by the Blue Rock School, this will be school’s sixth Renovation & Restoration House Tour since its inception in 2004. All proceeds will benefit the Ruth Schaeffer Scholarship Fund which makes an alternative education more accessible to children throughout the region.
