The village of Nyack, New York, will be transformed into an outdoor art gallery during the months of December and January. Mayor Jen Laird-White has announced the Nyack Window Project, which pairs visual artists with local landlords to create original installations in downtown storefront windows.
The exhibition — conceived by award-winning set designer and Nyack resident Joanne Howard — brings together a diverse group of visual artists in a group show, free for all to enjoy while strolling through the village. The window displays will be on view from December 11 through January 31.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, December 11 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at 8 North Broadway.
For this inaugural Nyack Window Project exhibit, Laird-White and Howard reached out to Nyack native Tony Oursler, an internationally-known multimedia artist whose work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA, Tate Modern, and many other museums and galleries. Mr. Oursler’s installation will be part of a group of windows at the Athene Insurance building on North Broadway at the corner of Main Street.
Joining Mr. Oursler at the Athene building is Michael Zansky, whose work can be seen at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Kris Burns and Joanne Howard round out the quartet at Athene.

Also on North Broadway, Suzanna Frosch will be taking over the windows of 2 N. Broadway; Jane Cowles and Matthew James Smith are on view at Riverwaves Salon (4 N. Broadway). On Main Street, look for Rodger Stevens’s snow flake sculpture (86 Main Street) and Johanna Goodman’s collages (116A Main Street). South Broadway welcomes Jamie Gaviola at Sanctuary (60 S. Broadway).
Last, but not least, artist Bill Batson will lead a group of children from the Nyack Center in a Dickens-themed installation at Lydecker Realty (143 Main Street).

Local landlords embraced an opportunity to give back to the community by donating space for the festive display.
