by Mike Hays We take for granted the large, attractive stone building fronting the parking lot and the Hudson River at Nyack Beach Park. Once known as the power house, it was rechristened as a bath house before swimming in the river was discouraged. It's a beautiful building with a long history of varied uses.

"It’s a place where heaven and Earth and the space-time continuum all align and synchronize to create a venue with a certain inalienable magic." Nyack’s only jazz club, Maureen’s Jazz Cellar, opened by Nyack artist Brianne Higgins and David Budway last summer, commemorates the great live jazz performances of David’s late sister, Maureen Budway.

He's also a talented baker and master of desserts at The Hudson House, a prolific photographer and a Hudson River rowing enthusiast. But you may not know that Matt Hudson is a self-taught wood-carver. His handiwork will be on display all month at the Valley Cottage Library with an opening reception on Sun March 12 from 1-3p.
