History Has Its Eyes on Us Poetry Walk

February 26, 2021

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until February 28, 2021

In celebration of Black History Month, the Nyack NAACP has organized a Poetry Walk from Feb.12-28 called History Has Its Eyes On Us which will wrap downtown Nyack in the lines of Amanda Gorman’s remarkable and inspiring inauguration poem, The Hill We Climb.

Starting at the gazebo in Hezekiah Easter Park with:

“When day comes,
we ask ourselves,
where can we find light
in this never-ending shade?”

and ending at the Rockland County Pride Center, with:

“For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it.
If only we’re brave enough to be it.”

the lines of The Hill We Climb will be divided, printed as posters and banners and displayed on windows, fences, doors and walls.

Visitors will be invited to explore a unique route of Nyack guided by the lines of the poem.
Each location will have a QR code which leads to:

  • A map of the Poetry Route
  • List of locations
  • Video of Amanda Gorman reciting her poem
  • Audio of the poem accompanied by music

Visitors will also be invited to join the Nyack NAACP as new or continuing members and take pictures and videos of themselves exploring
the Poetry Walk, and reciting the poem to post to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
