Seminar on Self-Publishing: The Pros & ConsWednesday March 13th, 2024 @ 6:30PM – 7:30PM

In association with the The Arts Council of Rockland, Big Red Books presents the seminar, “Self-Publishing: The Pros and Cons.”

Lisa Levart is a Nyack based photographer whose archetypal images weave together the personal and collective journeys of women’s lives. Her first book, “Goddess on Earth” won a Gold Nautilus Book Award, and was named one of the 100 Best New Women’s Spirituality Books by the California Institute of Integral Studies. “Goddess on Earth Oracle” her second book/oracle deck, won a Silver Nautilus Book Award. Lisa is the recipient of the Brigit Award for Excellence in the Arts from the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology, and the Larry Salley Photography Award from ArtsWestchester. In April, “Still Here” a site-specific installation of photographic portraits of women from the Ramapough Lenape Nation will be re-installed at the River Hook preserve in Upper Nyack.

Early in her career, Betsy Franco-Feeney worked with traditional publishers, including Charles Scribners and Sons, Ballantine Books, and Harcourt School Publishers. She subsequently created her indie imprint, Puddle Jump Press and produced three picture books, Amoeba Hop, Hole in the Bottom of the Sea, and Jewels of the Sea…The hunt for floating treasure. Betsy is currently illustrating a new picture book called Squirrels of StuyTown to be released later this year. Betsy is a life-long resident of Rockland County, residing in Piermont for the past twenty years.

Tom Stratford is an actor and author who resides in the Hudson Valley. Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack is where Tom began his acting career. From his first role as Ed in “You Can’t Take It With You” to appearing in more than forty films and television shows, Tom has recently written his first book, Along Came Zita, about his influential acting coach, 1930s screen actress, Zita Johan.
