Holistic Practices Skincare with Claudia Delia
Tell me a bit about your background. What did you do before starting your business?
I am a long time Nyack resident. When I was a junior in high school a desk job came to me by way of a friend. I was bored to tears and vowed never to have a desk job. A gourmet pizza restaurant opened in town and I got a job serving in the dining room (my introduction to 20 plus years in the service industry.) My work in the service industry afforded me all of my education and was an education as well.
Why did you start your business?
I started my business in skincare because I knew it was something I wanted to pursue and explore. My son was entering school full time and I felt I should consider working my way out of serving.
What does your business offer?
My business offers a hands on, “less is more” approach to vital, vibrant, and radiant skin for people of all ages. I am a manual focused esthetician. This means that I work mainly with my hands using modalities that focus on the inner workings, deeper layers/foundation of our skin. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) paired with integrative tissue manipulation, breath work, gua sha, cupping, and buccal/intra oral massage set the stage for beautiful skin from the inside out. MLD is a fountain of youth, a gift that will always give. MLD is light rhythmic movements on the skin that mimic our lymphatic vessels actions. Our lymphatic system is our body’s filtration “sanitation” system. It is our lymphatic system that keeps our “inner ocean” clean, free of stagnation and toxins, and allows for the equal exchange of nutrients and waste. MLD also allows the body to rest, restore, and for the nervous system to reset. The skin responds beautifully.
What makes your business special/different?
My approach and belief that beautiful, vital, and vibrant skin is possible for everyone if they are willing to make a commitment to their skin’s health and do the work (give themselves a ritual) at home in between appointments with me. If clients want to learn, I often educate them by walking them through the process. I strive to be clear with the “why” behind every action so my clients can take what I bestow on them and apply any techniques to themselves at home. I tell my clients to “give their skin the time of day.” We go to the gym, yoga, pilates, see nutritionists, eat healthy – all of this for our bodies. Why not for our skin, the largest organ of our bodies? This is a beautiful skin from the inside out, less is more approach to skincare. It is also a sustainable approach to skincare.
Who is your target customer?
I am 56. Truth be told, I use two products on my skin. I maintain a “ritual” for myself. I believe my work yields beautiful skin. There is intention in everything I am doing here at Holistic Practices Skincare. I stand behind my work, believe in my work, and that said: my target customer is someone who wants to learn, make a commitment and do the work for a sense of empowerment with their skin’s health and vitality.
What made you choose Nyack as the location for your business?
I live in Nyack and work out of my home and I know so many people here.
Where do you see your business in the future?
I would love to see my business as a service learning space. A place where I can practice and teach/coach. I would love to have a studio space to offer all of it and maybe find some more estheticians with the same work interests to work with.
Do you have any events or promotions coming up?
I am very excited and privileged to have been asked by Cecily Braden, founder of the Lymphatic Brush and Spa and Wellness Academy to help at this year’s Be + Well Beauty and Wellness Show (formerly International Esthetics, Cosmetics, and Spa Conference/International Beauty Show) at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC.
I am also very excited to be going back into the classroom again to learn a new modality to add to my services: Soma Sculpt with the amazing, talented Ashley Jo Press (MLD extraordinaire educator) in May.
Also look forward to an upcoming self care course with me with the lymphatic brush. I will show you how to use the brush to deliver visible, vibrant results!
Is there anything else we should know?
I love what I do. My hope is that it comes through with my hands and my intention. I make skincare as well. I have been making it increasingly since the pandemic and I find MLD increases the efficacy of your skincare. I also design and make handmade jewelry from sterling silver, yellow gold fill, semi precious stones, and anything else that peaks my interest.
