First Friday is a village-wide event that takes place the first Friday of every month, all year long, rain or shine. Nyack’s First Friday was inspired by First Thursday in Seattle, and is a production of the Nyack Art Collective.
First Friday features artists exhibiting their work in participating village businesses. The opening reception is from 5:00-8:00 pm the First Friday of each month and artists are on-site to discuss their art and answer questions. Each exhibit is on view for the entire month. The event is promoted through social media, flyers, www.nyackartcollective.com, and other advertising. The kick-off date of the first First Friday was July 5, 2013 and the Collective has had solo and group shows virtually every month since then. In addition to the exhibits, face painters, poets, musicians, jugglers, drummers, community interactive art projects, sketch mobs and other street performers, etc. have been part of the festivities… “happenings” from a group of dedicated individuals.
About the Nyack Art Collective
Nyack has always been home to people in the arts because of its charm, location and history.
Nyack Art Collective was formed in December 2012. Today, it is a member owned and managed non-profit art organization comprised of visual artists of the greater NY area. We are founded on the belief that in unifying, sharing and supporting our artistic process we access greater creativity, offering individual and collective benefits to our members. We equally seek to be a cohesive presence that enriches and enlivens the community of Nyack.
