Winter in Nyack – Warm Up in a Cool River Town!
The frosty months are here. But why hibernate when it’s easy to warm up in a cool Rockland river town? Nyack is the place for just that — a place to enjoy a warm welcome with lots of cool things to see and do. Read more below for some winter inspiration!
Cross-country Skiing, Ice Fishing, and More Outdoor Fun
Nyack Beach State Park’s trails are a great place for a winter walk, cross-country skiing, or ice-shoeing by the Hudson River. Or take a hike up Hook Mountain, which is beautiful in any season, but it’s especially peaceful and scenic in winter.
Just a few minutes from downtown Nyack, Rockland Lake State Park is a perfect spot for ice fishing, ice shoeing, cross-country skiing, or in milder weather, walking, roller blading, or biking along the paved path around the lake.
Memorial Park has a great sledding hill, and is equally great for taking in a gorgeous view of the new Mario Cuomo Bridge from the Bridge Viewing Platform.
Visit Rockland Center for the Arts (RoCA)
Take a winter walk through RoCA’s Catherine Konner Sculpture Park to see the Nests and Natural Progressions exhibits (now through April 2020), and catch a glimpse of nearby Buttermilk Falls from the trail. Then come in from the cold to see their current exhibits, take a weekend workshop, attend one of their many cultural events – like panel discussions, musical performances, and film screenings!
Visit Nearby Bear Mountain for Ice Skating and More
Grab your winter gear and spend an afternoon sledding, cross-country skiing, and ice skating at Bear Mountain’s traditional outdoor rink. Then warm up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa, and take a ride on their beautiful carousel, featuring 36 hand-carved woodland creatures, before heading back to Nyack.

“Nyack has it all — a special blend of Hudson Valley experiences in a warm, welcoming village just 25 miles north of New York City,” said Nyack Mayor Don Hammond. “The village continues to grow as a destination for people who want to enjoy life and make memories that go far beyond the ordinary.”
