No trick this weekend: the 28th annual Nyack Halloween Parade will be a treat to watch. The Sat festivities start at 9a with the 2nd annual Witch Way (costume optional) 5K + the kids three and older 1K Boo Run. And if you are too old for Halloween (say it ain’t so!) there’s live music, theatre, art openings, film and opera on tap, too.

Friday

• Small Matters of Great Importance: Light & Shadow is a juried exhibition celebrating small works that make big statements. In keeping with Edward Hopper-related themes, this year all submissions related to Light & Shadow. The exhibit runs through Jan 3. Reception is from 6-8p at Edward Hopper House, 82 N Broadway, Nyack.
• Join the Helicopter Parenting Discussionwith Julie Lythcott-Haims, NY Times best-selling author of the nationally acclaimed book How To Raise An Adult. 7-8:30p at Rockland Country Day School, 34 Kings Hwy, Congers.
• Union Arts Center presents Jon Burr Quintet show. The performance coincides with the release of their new album. 8p at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St, Sparkill.
• All are welcome to participate in a screening of theAmerican Native
  documentary, a film celebrating Native American heritage. A drum and dance ceremony starts off the evening. 7-9p at Rockland Community College, 145 College Rd, Suffern.
• Alfred Hitchcock Presents three one act plays from the master of macabre, murder and mystery. 8p at Nyack Village Theatre, 94 Main St.
• An art caper gone awry in Priceless. on stage at Penguin Repertory Theater. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p, 7 Crickettown Rd, Stony Point.

Saturday

• Halloween is right around the corner as Nyack kicks off the festivities with a Witch Way Halloween Costume 5K! The 5k starts at 9a, followed by the 1k Kid’s Costumed Boo Run at 9:45a. Proceeds to benefit the Nyack Center. Send off takes place at Veterans Memorial gazebo on Main St, Nyack.
• Check out the GRID Group Exhibition opening reception. This exhibit includes the work of Jeanne Heifetz, Polly King, Laura Shapiro and Robert Strati. Enjoy this unique venue for fun, food and some wonderful artwork and ideas. 3-9p at Exhibit 23, 23 Tena Place, Valley Cottage.
• Nyack’s 28th Annual Halloween Parade, the biggest outside of New York City. Join other ghosts and ghouls of all ages from Bergen, NJ, Westchester County and Rockland County. The parade kicks off at Memorial Park. 5-8p throughout Nyack Downtown, Main St and Broadway.
• Families are invited to Monster Mash at the Nyack Center immediately following the Nyack Halloween parade.
• The Hudson Lyric Opera presentsEnglebert Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel performed in English with full orchestra. Sat at 7:30p, Sun at 2p at Trinity United Methodist Church, 47 East Main St., Stony Point.
• Take part in Peace Ensemble – A Faith Initiative Concert put on by Christian and Jewish clergy whose aim is to bridge the religious divide through music; traditional and original. 7-8:30p at Congregation Sons of Israel, 300 N Broadway, Nyack.
• Everyone’s invited to Bear Mountain for the 2015 Oktoberfest where families can partake in German food and beer, entertainment, craft vendors and much more. Oktoberfest takes place every weekend through October. 12-6p, Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Palisades Interstate Parkway, Bear Mountain.

• The Nyack Art Collective hosts a reception for their most extensive group exhibition to date. Meet the artists and see the exhibit spanning 3 floors of the Nyack Library. 1-3p at Nyack Library, 59 S Broadway.
• Akiko Kobayashi performs a classical violin and piano recital of works spanning from Italian solo fantasies by Telemann to the early op.8 folk-like sonata by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. 1:30p at Valley Cottage Library, 110 NY-303, Valley Cottage.
• The Papernik + Wu Piano Duo performs from their 2015 debut album, Four Hand Band, featuring duet classics from Mozart’s ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Bizet’s opera ‘Carmen’ to Argentine tangos and Russian dances. 3-4:30p at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St, Sparkill.
• To open their 46th season, GraceMusic presentsEnsemble Tremblay performing a piece Mozart described as “the best thing I have written in my life.” Renowned pianist Todd Crow joins the ensemble. This concert is given in loving memory ofKelsey Graham. 4p at Grace Church, 130 First Ave.

• The Historical Society of the Nyacks’ Fall exhibition features the photographs of the construction of the original Tappan Zee Bridgetaken between 1952 – 1955 by Leonard Cooke of Nyack. Exhibit runs every Sunday through Nov 29. 1p at 50 Piermont Ave, Nyack.
